Emptiness Tour 2021: Intermission
Trip from Evergreen, CO to Breckenridge on Hwy 285
Intermission is a time between events, like the space of time between seconds, or as time flies. Thoughts rush in to fill the void. Either you are comfortable in a void, or you are not. Either you are immersed in the Now, or you are aware of time itself.
Motorcycle touring teaches you how to feel comfortable in the void. Some call it Freedom while some call it Meditative - same thing.
The earth, before humans, was a vast empty canvas, living outside of time, with its simple laws of nature. No concept of history. Life and death - that's it. And all the dangers in living. That is when the thoughts come in to fill the void. What we perceive as dangerous, or hard, tells us a lot about ourselves and each other. Can we become comfortable in the perceived danger we face ? A confident "Mountain Man" with one noble objective: physical survival in nature. The rest is the folly of our own creation.
It has been a good Summer - a good Intermission between long rides. In two weeks, I will be on the road again; headed back to Florida through New Mexico, Texas. and the Deep South (weather and road conditions permitting).
In the photo, I was riding into what looked like a brutal rain. When I arrived in Fairplay, CO, I found myself in the middle of a lightening storm. I took a right onto Hwy 9, drove over Hoosier Pass, and down to Breckenridge. Strange: I only got a few drops of rain on me. The perceived trouble of hell on wheels in a massive storm did not pan out. The seas parted and I ended up in the Promised Land.
