Looks Like Up To Me Adventures (Dedicated to Steve & Faith Tepper)



I don't want to make this into a Christmas Newsletter.  I will be brief.  

My last post was in 2022 after my 5th motorcycle trip from S. Florida to Colorado.  I went from Boca Raton to the tippy top of Nova Scotia, across Canada, and down to Colorado.  This was to be my last long ride.  It feels like I have seen every gas station from Boca Raton to Seattle.  So, I decided to do something really different for 2023.

In March, I went to Galway, Ireland for 3.5 weeks.  I rented an AirB&B near downtown.  I played guitar in Taaf's Pub, got to meet many new friends, and got to love the Irish shoreline,.  Notice: no condos.  No traffic.  Guns are outlawed in Ireland.  Everyone has the opportunity to get a free college education. 

I looked back at the United States.  Honestly, Ireland was a relief from the crazed political climate in the US.  The pub scene was great - people never talked politics; they were civil.  Was surprized to see a Florida contingent in the Galway St. Patty's Day Parade.

Back in the States, I bought a Jeep and make the trek to Colorado.  A major highlight of this drive was riding on the Natchez-Trace Parkway.  No traffic lights or billboards for over 400 miles.  The speed limit is 50 mph for the entire distance, but you will not want to go faster than this in any event.  I got off the parkway for the night in Tupelo, MS; then got right back on the next morning.  I highly recommend this drive.

I got involved with the off-roading crowd.  A whole new set of folks from all over the US.  The rides could be very challenging through the wilderness.

I drove, with Janis, up the coast line of Northern California, Oregon, and into Washington State.  On my drive back, I again stopped in Nevada City, California before heading back to Colorado.

In September, I decided to sell my condo in Boca Raton and move to Nevada City.  My son, his SO, and two dogs came to visit me there.  I am going to lease a property in Nevada City until I find just what I am looking for to buy in the area.

This year, I have driven over 20k miles in the Jeep.  I did not have the same experiences I would have on a motorcycle; but, I did have differnet advantures.

I am dedicating this entry in the blog to Steve & Faith Tepper.  Thank you for following me in the years past.  I am also thankful to Bob & Nancy Levy and all my friends in Boca Raton.  I shall miss all of you.,  However, come out to visit me - I have leased a huge log home for a year.

Reality Check Tour 2022: Contrast in Cultures: Florida to Vermont

  It has been one week, today, since I left Boca Raton, Florida.  Driving up to Sanford (Orlando area), Florida to catch the Amtrak Auto Train to Lorton, Virginia, the heat was almost suffocating.  I thought the heat was bad in Florida, but nothing topped the heat from Lorton to Damascus, Maryland - especially in bumper to bumper traffic in 98 degree weather. A sea of humanity in metal cages (i.e., cars) on Highway 15 from Leesburg, VA to Frederick, MD.  I used my "motorcycle card" by zipping past miles of standstill traffic via the shoulder.  I justified it by a legitimate rationalization: I am exposed to heat without the luxury of air conditioning that was enjoyed by those in cars.  A typically 1.5 hour ride took me 4 hours.  I arrived in Damascus to attend Janis' family reunion - a great first 2 day stop filled with fun and human interaction. Reality Check Tour 2022: Laramie, WY to Breckenridge, CO; Photo Gallery

Dillon, Colorado - With Janis, Bob & Nancy Levy - E-Bikes The first leg of my tour is at a close; 6000 miles in a month.  I drove from Laramie, WY to Steamboat Springs, CO, then to visit the Edelmans in Beaver Creek, CO, and then to Breckenridge, CO where I will stay until October 1, 2022.  The second leg for my tour will begin on October 1 - when I will travel through New Mexico, Texas, the deep South, ending back to where I began in Florida. I want to thank Reed & Cathy Edelman for their hospitality while in Beaver Creek.  One other highlight of my trip from Laramie to Breckenridge was Seedz Restaurant in Steamboat Springs: my favorite place to eat in Colorado.  If you are in that neck of the woods, you must stop for either lunch or dinner; or, in my case, dinner & lunch :). Emptiness Tour 2021: Only In Texas: White Sands, NM to Marfa, TX

  Outside Valentine, TX 33 Miles from Marfa I explored White Sands National Park and ran across a BBQ party in the middle of the Sands: It was getting late (around 11:30 am), so I hightailed it out or White Sands and headed to Marfa.  I took the long route over the mountains to the east so that I could take a look at a resort called Cloudcroft, NM.  Here is a video of what I saw on the way to the mountains: I stopped in Cloudcroft for lunch, and I met a fellow biker, Scotty Gordy, a City Commissioner from Lovington, TX.  We talked about economic development and what could be done in his fair city.  We then road together to Artesia, NM, where I headed south on my way to Marfa.
