Nice Folks in Alabama: July 25, 2019: Boca to Dothan, AL

I-95 to Turnpike at Jupiter, to Hwy 75 at Wildwood, to I-10 at Lake City Exit, to Cottondale Exit, 231 north to Dothan, AL.

Got on the road at 4 am.  Just south of Orlando (6:45 am) when it started to rain.  Hit road construction in the rain.  Was this how the ride was going to \be?  But, when I reached Gainesville, FL, the skies cleared for the rest of the day.  Temperature was ideal - a cool mid-70s riding with just a t-shirt and jeans.

I have been in Florida for many years and I have never been to the panhandle.  It is a different world from South Florida.  The pines look different, the atmosphere is unique, and I feel a change in the spirit of place.  Stopped in Tallahassee for the first time in my life.  Had lunch at Backwoods Crossing - The Farm Table.  A farm-to-table restaurant - the restaurant actually is located on the farm itself.  Emma recommended the Shrimp with Spirit salad - which was fantastic.  Apparently, I looked homeless because she said that if I wanted to work on the farm I could sleep there.  Emma had a room in the barn loft.  Just thought it was funny having Emma offer me a job.  My excitement about the food apparently signaled to her a my career at Backwoods.

Off to Dothan, Alabama - pretty much a city build on a 7 mile round circle (Ross Clark Circle).  I had been on the road for almost 11 hours ... what surprised me was that some 25 miles west of Tallahassee, I crossed over into  the Central Time Zone,  Now in Dothan earlier than expected, I visited the folks at Dothan Harley Davidson.  The folks there were awesome: Mandi, Phil, Ben, and others were interested in my ride.  Mandi suggested that I have dinner at Hunts Oyster House & Seafood Restaurant.

Hunts is sort of a classic place.  Many different informal dining areas with two bars.  Sat at the wood bar where Deedy and Mistel serced me strong drinks after a long day.  I took an Uber there and back.  In bed and sound asleep at 7:30 pm CST.
